Aleida is a science journalist based in Mexico City. She graduated in Journalism from the National University of Mexico (UNAM) and holds a master degree in Journalism for News Agencies from the University Rey Juan Carlos, in Spain, which included an internship at EFE Agency in Cairo. She also did a Diploma Course on Journalism for Developing Countries at the Indian Institute of Mass Communication, in New Delhi. During more than 17 years, Aleida has written about science for several radio, television, print and digital media. She currently works as a science communicator for the Complex Science Center at the National University of Mexico (UNAM) and writes for the digital media Salud con Lupa (Peru), Pie de Página (Mexico) and SciDev.Net (Latin America). She has won several national and international awards for her stories. The most recent is the first place in the Science & Health category of the COVID-19 Reporting Contest 2021 organised by the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) and the International Network of Journalists (IJNet). Aleida is frequently an invited professor in science journalism in several universities from Mexico and Latin America. She is co-founder and ex president of the Mexican Network of Science Journalists.
